August-September, 2018
The school year 2018-19 is fully underway, with 8 weeks of classes under our belts, magnificent Discover India in the books and our Fall Break just ending. SAISA Season 1 is in two weeks, and CHEMUN around the corner in November. We are proud of our student leaders and athletes who balance and thrive in an environment of opportunity, collaboration, teamwork and challenge.
In our AP and IB classes, first summatives are in the books, and for AP students and first year IB students, the challenges and benefits of the advanced courses have shifted from being anticipated to lived. Students cite time management as the skill they are most challenged to strengthen, and the high-level learning environments they experience with their peers and teacher as what they appreciate most in their advanced courses. AP students, 45 of whom earned AP Scholar, AP Scholar with Honors, AP Scholar with Distinction and AP International Diploma recognition, shared their wisdom, seen here:
Biggest Ever!
Last year's AP cohort (2018) was also the largest in AISC history with 268 exams taken by 95 students. The largest prior cohort was 204 exams by 77 students in 2017. Our average in the previous 4 years (2014-2017) was 61 students taking 157 exams.
Along with the increase in number of students taking advanced placement courses, the higher percentage of students achieved a 3 or higher than ever before - 89% - with strong comparative results vis-a-vis students in India and globally.
Of note, this year's IB Y1 class (2020 cohort) is the largest in AISC history, with 20 students beginning the two year effort. The largest cohort prior was the 2015 cohort with 15 students. The seven year average, 2011-2017 was 10 per cohort.
Looking IB Y2 students are finishing up their first drafts of the Extended Essays (list of working research questions here), and preparing their integrated Group 4 (Science) project.s
